After Senegal and Ivory Coast, the ellipse art project dedicates the ellipse 2023 prize to the Togolese art scene. The prize calls for Togolese artists living in Togo and on the African continent to turn in their portfolios.

ellipse art project is a non-profit organization established  in 2021 by the French company Ellipse Projects, which focuses on design and construction projects in Sub-Saharan Africa and Asia. The ellipse Prize is an art competition developed by ellipse art projects to highlight artistic creation on French territory, with each edition focusing on a different country.

The ellipse art project is committed to promoting artists’ visibility and mobility. The winner of the 2023 ellipse prize will have access to international networks to get an opportunity to be exhibited in France at the AKAA – ALSO KNOWN AS AFRICA international art fair, which will be held from October 20 to 22, 2023. The expenses and logistics – visa, transport fees, housing, per diem and production grant according to the artist’s project- will be fully covered. There will also be a media campaign and a tailored professional support for the winner.

Ibrahima Ndome (2021, Senegal) and Assoukrou Aké (2022, Ivory Coast) are previous winners of the first and second edition of the ellipse prize.

The theme for this year’s edition is “dreamy memory.” The goal is to spread the messages conveyed by the artists in order to raise collective awareness about the environment.

Artists are invited to send in their portfolio in connection to the theme from March 6 to April 30, 2023. The first committee of the jury will meet in May while the second committee meets in June, 2023.

There will be 5 finalists and a winner at the end of the competition. They will be selected by a Franco-Togolese jury such as:

  • Victoria Mann, founding director of AKAA- Also Known As Africa in Paris;
  • Atelier Ati – Juliette Delecour and Kokou Ferdinand Makouvia, founders of the ArtMéssiamé artistic residency in Togo;
  • Armelle Malvoisin, journalist specialist of the African contemporary art market;
  • Eric Wonanu, artist and curator.

ellipse art projects partners with art establishments to increase its capacity to serve as a social force for change in France and its countries of intervention. The partners of this third edition are:

  • AKAA, ALSO KNOWN AS AFRICA, Paris
  • Association Atelier Ati, Lomé
  • Institut Français du Togo, Lomé
