“In search of Data, Artwork from Puerto Rico and the Diaspora” – •

Herrera” is on view till September 11, 2022, on the Patricia & Phillip Frost Artwork Museum, Florida Worldwide College, Modesto Maidique Campus (10975 SW seventeenth Road, Miami, Florida).
As a toddler rising up on the campus of Universidad de Puerto Rico-Río Piedras, Dr. Gamaliel R. Herrera developed a eager curiosity in artwork and philosophy. Whereas pursuing his personal schooling, Herrera started accumulating up to date artwork, specializing in a number of Puerto Rican artists whose philosophical inquiries inform their work. This exhibition celebrates Dr. Herrera’s beneficiant present to the Frost Artwork Museum, that includes works starting from landscapes to summary compositions.
This new core assortment for the museum consists of works by Myritza Castillo, Wilfredo Chiesa, José Lerma, Nayda Collazo-Llorens, Melvin Martinez, Gamaliel Rodriguez, Julio Rosado del Valle, Noemí Ruiz, Quintín Rivera Toro, and Miguel Trelles. These artists share thematic nodes that join their completely different practices. Noemí Ruiz’s enigmatic summary types recommend a constructed atmosphere whereas Gamaliel Rodriguez interrogates connections between energy and structure. Wilfredo Chiesa’s expressive summary composition shares an aesthetic sensibility with Summary Expressionist and Coloration Discipline painters whereas Melvin Martinez layers and deconstructs paint in vivid colours to attract consideration to artwork’s materials qualities.
