JOHANNESBURG – The Nationwide Union of Metalworkers is demanding that from 1 January all workers at Comair be paid their full salaries.

Most have solely been taking house round 70% of their pay, whereas advantages have been drastically lowered, the union claimed.

The aviation trade, which has been hit laborious by COVID-19, compelled Comair to floor its flights in July attributable to monetary difficulties and was subsequently positioned in enterprise rescue.

Numsa spokesperson Phakamile Hlubi-Majola stated: “It’s our agency view that the enterprise rescue practitioners are milking Comair. They price a median R1 million per 30 days in keeping with administration. They’re making a fortune while workers are sinking into debt and despair as a result of their way of life has been drastically lowered.

“Fortuitously, the backward collective settlement will expire on 31 December. This implies a brand new collective settlement should be negotiated with new phrases and circumstances.”
