Mapisa-Nqakula rejects UDM, ATM request for Parly probe into Ramaphosa claims

CAPE TOWN – Nationwide Meeting Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has declined requests by the United Democratic Motion (UDM) and the African Transformation Motion (ATM) for a parliamentary probe into allegations in opposition to President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The UDM requested a parliamentary investigation into Ramaphosa’s alleged conduct, together with inserting him on sabbatical depart.

UDM chief Bantu Holomisa wrote to Mapisa-Nqakula requesting that an inquiry headed by a retired decide examine Ramaphosa.

Speaker Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula declined the UDM’s submission on the grounds that it didn’t represent and was not accompanied by a substantive movement.

She acknowledged that the principles didn’t cater for this explicit inquiry to be initiated, and that there existed no authorized foundation for Parliament to compel the president to take depart or a sabbatical.

Mapisa-Nqakula mentioned that for Parliament to undertake such an inquiry, there have to be foundation within the Structure, the legislation or guidelines which the meeting would depend upon.

She mentioned that the UDM has not made such a case.

Holomisa took to his Twitter account following the choice, saying that he was not shocked by the transfer, saying that it was “payback time” for the Speaker.
