DeMar DeRozan willing to take a pay cut to join Lakers, per report
DeMar DeRozan is going to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason, with Los Angeles Lakers reportedly being among the teams interested in the veteran forward.
Both sides had mutual interest to collaborate the last few seasons, as DeRozan grew up in Southern California, and he played collegiately at USC.
According to Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times, DeRozan is willing to take a pay cut to join the Lakers this offseason.
“DeRozan, who starred at Compton High and USC, has interest in returning home to play for the Lakers, even if it is for less than the $27.7 million he earned last season in San Antonio, according to people not authorized to speak publicly on the matter.” Turner reported.
DeRozan made $27.7 million last season being part of the San Antonio Spurs. Their likeliest path for the Lakers to signing DeRozan would be through the taxpayer mid-level exception worth roughly $5.9 million, as the LA franchise is projected to be far above the salary cap.
