“Archipelago” (Maison Dufort) – •

Sponsored by Heart d’Artwork and curated by artwork historian Veerle Poupeye, “Archipelago: Neuf Artistes Femmes des Caraïbes” opened on Might 14 at Maison Dufort (9 Rue du Travail) in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The exhibition might be on view till June 18, 2022. IciHaiti explains that that is the 276th exhibition in Heart d’Artwork’s 78 years of existence. The exhibition is the ultimate product of a cross-residency program within the Caribbean initiated by the Heart d’Artwork and financed by the Worldwide Fund for Cultural Variety of UNESCO.

Veerle Poupeye, artwork historian and curator specializing in Caribbean and Jamaican artwork, is the curator accountable for the exhibition.

Rezo Nodwes writes: The title of the exhibition, Archipelago, refers back to the geographical and metaphorical implications of the chain of Caribbean islands, to which a lot of the artists within the exhibition refer, instantly or not directly.

It alludes to unity within the area’s range, connections and divisions, and the significance of pure heritage and shared histories. Though the artists labored alone throughout their residencies, with out interplay with the opposite artists within the exhibition, and every have a definite inventive voice, the thematic commonalities are hanging and communicate of shared experiences and issues.

There may be, for instance, a standard concern for the feminine and gendered physique and island geography; nature and spirituality; historic and up to date fragility and trauma, but in addition resilience and therapeutic; household and ancestry; and the position of girls in Caribbean society.
